Questions, answered

Does my friend have to do anything to receive?
No. By default a file just arrives: it auto-downloads the moment you send, decrypts on their device, and lands in their downloads, with no accept step and no login. Anyone who would rather stay hands-on can turn off auto-decrypt and keep each file exactly as it arrived, an age-encrypted blob, then decrypt it themselves only when they choose to.
How long do files stay on the relay?
Minutes, at most. Your friend's device has about 20 minutes to start the download and up to 2 hours to finish a big one. Delivery deletes the file instantly, and a missed window deletes it too. If they were offline the whole time, nothing is stuck: you just send it again. There is no cloud folder to clean up.
What can the relay see?
Very little, and never the important part. Every file is encrypted end-to-end on your device before it leaves, locked to your friend's key from when you paired, so only their device can open it. The relay just moves that ciphertext: it sees who sent to whom, the size, and the time, but never the contents, and not even the filename, which is encrypted too. It deletes its copy the moment your friend receives it.
Why isn't there a faster tier?
Everyone already moves as fast as we can push it, and we never throttle the free tier to sell the fix. If you need more than the shared relay can give, that is a custom setup, so talk to us.
How does the AI sending work?
Sendfile exposes an MCP server, so you can connect it to an assistant like Claude and say "send report.pdf to Bob and Mia". It sends to anyone you're already paired with.
Do I need an account?
No passwords, no sign-up. Your identity is a key on this device. Pairing is a one-time code you swap with a friend. Pro is billed against a lightweight profile tied to your device.
Will I ever have to pay?
Most people never do. The free tier is deliberately generous, files up to 2 GB and 10 GB a day, which covers most everyday sending. Heavier use is what the paid plans are for, and beyond those we do custom and self-hosted setups on negotiated terms. The pricing page has the numbers.
What happens if I cancel?
You keep Pro until the end of the period you have paid for, then drop back to the Free tier and keep using Sendfile. There is no lock-in and nothing to clean up.
