Terms of Service

Last updated July 2, 2026

These terms govern your use of Sendfile (sendfile.dev) ("Sendfile", "we", "us"). By installing the software or using the relay service, you agree to them. We've kept them short and readable.

1. What Sendfile is

sendfile.dev is a service for sending files directly between paired users. Files are encrypted on your device before upload, relayed through our servers, and deleted the moment they are delivered. We provide the relay and the client software; we do not provide storage.

2. Your account and keys

Sendfile has no passwords. When you first run the client, it generates a secret token and encryption keys that live on your device. You are responsible for keeping your device and token secure. Anyone with access to your token can act as you.

If you lose your token, we cannot recover it or your identity for you. By design, we never have it.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to use Sendfile to:

  • Send content that is illegal to possess or distribute where you or your recipient live.
  • Distribute malware, or attempt to compromise, overload, or reverse the security of the service or its users.
  • Infringe someone else's intellectual property or privacy rights.
  • Circumvent rate limits, quotas, or abuse protections.

Because we cannot read your files, enforcement is based on reports, account signals, and metadata we necessarily see (sender, recipient, size, timing). We may suspend accounts that abuse the service.

4. Plans and payment

Sendfile offers a free tier and a paid Pro tier. Paid subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel any time and keep Pro until the end of your billing period. Prices are shown on our pricing page and may change with reasonable notice; changes never affect the period you've already paid for.

We don't offer refunds, including for unused time; cancelling simply stops the next renewal. See our Cancellation Policy for details.

5. Availability and limits

We work hard to keep the relay fast and available, but we provide the service "as is" and "as available", without warranties. Transfers require both parties to be online; a file that isn't collected within its grace window expires and is deleted. Size and daily-volume limits apply per tier.

6. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Sendfile is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for lost data resulting from the ephemeral nature of the service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.

7. Changes and contact

We may update these terms; we'll post the new date here and, for material changes, give notice. Continued use means you accept the update. Questions about these terms? Email hello@sendfile.dev.

This document is written in plain language for clarity and is provided as-is. It isn't legal advice. Questions? Email hello@sendfile.dev and a human will answer.
